GIESSEN, Germany — Army authorities are investigating the weekend death of a U.S. soldier based in Giessen, though currently there are no indications of foul play, an Army spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The identity of the soldier was being withheld pending completion of the family notification process, said Sgt. 1st Class Nancy Morrison, a 1st Armored Division spokeswoman.

All authorities would acknowledge was that a soldier based in Giessen was found unconscious in the barracks Sunday. An Army news release stated that U.S. military and German paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive the soldier.

An autopsy was to be performed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.

“As of right now, the cause of death is unknown,” Morrison said, “but indications are there was no foul play.”
