A court-martial began Monday for an England-based airman on charges that he assaulted a child a year ago.
Airman 1st Class Mark E. Cooper, of RAF Fairford’s 420th Munitions Squadron, is accused of violating article 128 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Cooper allegedly committed an assault upon the child by “pushing on his arms, chest and legs with a means likely to produce death or grievous bodily harm,” according to a charge sheet provided by the 501st Combat Support Wing, which oversees Fairford’s units. The assault allegedly took place sometime between Feb. 10, 2007, and March 17, 2007.
The trial is expected to continue at least through Wednesday, according to 501st officials.
