A May 16 story about ticks in Germany should have stated that 6,244 Lyme Borreliosis cases were reported for 2006 in the German states of Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, and Thüringen. The German states that have U.S. military presence (Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz) are not required to report Lyme disease cases. The Robert Koch Institute estimates that 60,000 cases of Lyme disease occur each year in Germany.
