UPDATED JULY 26, 1:02 P.M.

Unexploded ordnance discovered on RAF Lakenheath in England will be disposed of in two “controlled detonations,” base officials said late Tuesday.

U.S. and United Kingdom Ministry of Defense personnel will be conducting controlled detonations of ordnance Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m., according to the release.

The ordnance was discovered Tuesday near the Lakenheath flightline.

Residents in the local community may hear occasional noises during these periods but should not be concerned, according to the 48th Fighter Wing news release. There are no risks to the local community.

Flying operations at RAF Lakenheath will not be affected by the detonations, officials said. Those with questions should contact the 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office at 01638 522 151.
