SEOUL — An American contractor working for the U.S. Air Force is under investigation for a Monday night incident, military officials confirmed.

The man, an employee of Arctic Slope, was charged by Korean National Police with driving under the influence. He is accused of driving a vehicle that struck three Korean pedestrians, said Maj. David Smith, 7th Air Force spokesman at Osan Air Base.

An official at the Yongsan Police Station confirmed the accident, stating that the South Korean pedestrians were injured. He said he was unable to provide any additional details Tuesday afternoon.

Citing the ongoing Korean National Police investigation, Smith declined to name the man. He said the man is not in South Korean custody but added that Korean authorities “typically maintain jurisdiction for cases involving contractor personnel.”
