Extreme Summer 2008, a U.S. Air Forces in Europe Services annual competition in which participants can earn points throughout the summer for big prizes, begins May 1.
More than $150,000 in prizes will be awarded to Department of Defense identification card holders ages 8 and above.
By participating in specific events throughout the summer, contestants earn game pieces that can win instant prizes or earn points that could lead to big prizes, according to the contest’s Web site, www.extremesummer.com.
Events include classes at local arts and crafts centers, bowling, library events, community activity center-sponsored trips and using local auto skills centers. A complete list is available at the above Web site.
Contestants are entered into one of four groups based on age and rank: 8 to 12 years old; 13 to 18 years old; military pay grades E-1 to E-5 and their spouses; and all other DOD employees.
Adult prizes include a 2008 Ford Focus, a trip for two to a NASCAR race in Atlanta and $1,000 cash. Youth prizes include trips to Disney World in Florida.
Participants will have a chance to meet celebrities at selected events throughout the summer, including Billy Blanks of Tae-Bo fame; former Harlem Globetrotter Fred “Curly” Neal; “American Idol” finalist Lisa Tucker; and “Soul Food” actor Rockmund Dunbar, the Web site said.
