(Tribune News Service) — The U.S. Coast Guard on Wednesday rescued two people whose boat overturned off the Oregon coast.

A fellow boater who was with the overturned vessel called for help Wednesday morning, according to an agency spokesman. The Coast Guard diverted a helicopter whose crew was training in the area, and rescuers hoisted the imperiled boaters to safety.

One of them was holding onto the hull of the overturned boat, and the other was hoisted from a nearby sandbar.

It wasn’t immediately clear how the person got to the sandbar, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael Clark, a Coast Guard spokesman.

The boaters were taken to authorities on the shore, Clark said.

Clark didn’t immediately have information about the boaters’ conditions or know exactly where the boat capsized.
