TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Tribune News Service) — On June 15, the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City was diverted while on a routine training flight. A woman had fallen approximately 20 feet off a cliff at Hidden Beach.
The woman had suffered a head injury.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene and determined that hoisting the survivor for transport to the hospital was the best option. The alternative was to rappel the victim 300 feet to the top of the cliff.
A local paramedic was hoisted as well to assist a rescue swimmer with medical care.
