YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — The Commander, Naval Forces Japan Regional Fire Department earned three honors in the 2005 Fire and Emergency Services Awards, according to a CNFJ news release.

The region’s 19 fire stations provided live fire training, supported local fire reviews and volunteered in the community, garnering the title of “Large Fire Department of the Year” and “Fire Prevention Program of the Year” runner-up.

Two individuals also received accolades, including “Civilian Firefighter of the Year,” Yujiro Awata and Frank Montone, runner up for “Civilian Firefighter of the Year.” Both Awata and Montone are from Sasebo Naval Base.

A recognition luncheon will be Sept. 14 in Dallas. Winners are also entered in the Department of Defense-wide competition.
