An Associated Press story in the Nov. 13 edition reported U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Robert Cone believes President-elect Barack Obama’s plans to focus on the war in Afghanistan will add to the significance of the Army’s mission of training Afghan security forces.
The story should have made clear that Cone pointed to ongoing reviews by military strategists as a reason for the Army to expect increased attention and resources for training.
There have been "numerous strategic reviews; all that come through here recognize the importance of the Afghans assuming a greater role," Cone said in the telephone interview from Afghanistan.
