A civilian was found dead Tuesday afternoon in the vicinity of Fort Magsaysay, a Philippine army base east of Clark Air Field and site of some of the training for the Balikatan military exercise between the U.S. military and Armed Forces of the Philippines.

U.S. military officials said initial reports indicate the body was not that of an American and not related to the bilateral exercise.

“It doesn’t appear to have anything to do with Balikatan training but it’s under investigation by the Armed Forces of the Philippines," said Marine Capt. Burrell Parmer, an exercise spokesman.

He said Tuesday he was unsure whether the body was found on Fort Magsaysay or outside the base.
