Start your exploration of Toulon with a cable car ride to the summit of Mount Faron, to get a panoramic view of the Bay of Toulon.

At the top, visit the Mount Faron Zoo, home to a wild-cat breeding center and the Allied Landing Memorial Museum in the Tour Beaumont tower. The museum has collections dedicated to the armies that took part in the August 1944 Allied landings in Provence and features photos and slide shows.

Within the city is the Mourillon Quarter with a busy promenade offering a daily food market, boutiques and botanical gardens. The area is full of fine restaurants that serve continental and local Provence dishes.

The Toulon tourism office suggests visiting the city’s museums, including the Natural History Museum, which focuses on regional fauna, mineralogy and paleontology. Art enthusiasts will find many art museums. The Oriental and Asian Arts Museum’s exhibits highlight Buddhism’s influence in the Far East, and the Italian Renaissance-style Musee d’Art exhibits Provencal works.

Other museums of interest include the National Naval Museum, with exhibits retracing efforst of the French navy and the history of the Port and Bay of Toulon. The Musee du Vieux Toulon exhibits various works of art that explain the area’s history.

Situated at the foot of the Sudety Mountains, upon the Odra River and divided by tributaries and canals, Wroclaw is a welcoming city of 12 islands and 112 bridges.

Despite being nearly destroyed during World War II, Wroclaw is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Poland. To experience the local splendor, take a stroll through Szczytnicki Park with its 370-plus species of trees and shrubs. You also can take a romantic stroll among the hand-lit oil lamps that line the streets on the island of Ostrow Tumski.

Rynek, the central square, is home to picturesque buildings, including the town hall that now houses the Museum of Burgher Art. Stop at one of the many cafes lining the square and enjoy a performance by one of the many musicians or pantomime artists. You can also pick up an inexpensive painting from one of the local artists in the square.
