Here is a sampling of offerings gleaned from the Web site

Next weekend — Nov. 24-26Murcia, Spain: 26.37 pounds round trip

Fly Ryanair from London Stansted to Murcia.

Murcia is an often-overlooked destination because the region is nowhere as lush and green as those surrounding it, but hidden within the city of Murcia are many great treasures.

On the plaza del Cardinal Belluga is the cathedral with its 316-foot tower and 25 bells. Many different styles and cultures are expressed throughout the 23 chapels within the cathedral. Outside, near the city hall, is the Palacia Episcopal, home of the bishop of Murcia. Both are worth exploring.

Tourists can enjoy the mild winters in Murcia, choosing from many outdoor activities. Water sports lovers should visit the Mar Menor Nautical Center, open all year. It provides services for more than 20 water sports for everyone, from beginner to expert. Dry-land adventurers can enjoy hiking, pony-trekking and rock-climbing. Evenings can be spent at the many lively bars and restaurants in the area around the university.

Next month — Dec. 21-24Grenoble, France: 58.06 pounds round trip

Fly Ryanair from London Stansted to Grenoble.

Lying near the junction of the Isère and Drac rivers, Grenoble is a gateway to the French Alps. Within a two-hour car drive, there are more than 200 ski resorts, many offering skiing year-round. The mountain lakes offer beautiful sites for exploration on foot or by car, and fishing in the lakes and in some rivers is allowed most of the year for a fee. If just relaxing is more your style, there are many spas in the area.

Antique heaven can be found in the old town, the Notre Dame district, where everything from jewelry and books to furniture can be found. Interesting shops, bars and numerous restaurants line the narrow streets.

No trip to Grenoble in December would be complete without a visit to the Christmas market at Place Victor Hugo, popular for its mulled wine, singing and lights. Browse the market stalls for chocolates, spiced bread, teas, decorations, candles, nativity sets and hundreds of small gifts.

According to the Grenoble Tourist Office, there are more than 90 events scheduled during the market.
