Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 7 is to change commanders Friday at its headquarters on U.S. Naval Base Guam.

Cmdr. Bryon K. Johnson, the squadron’s executive officer, will succeed Cmdr. James P. McGrath III as commanding officer.

Johnson was previously the chief staff officer of Amphibious Squadron 5 and chief staff officer of Naval Coastal Warfare Squadron 21.

McGrath, squadron commander since December 2006, is being assigned to the USS Harry S. Truman as the aircraft carrier’s assistant reactor officer.

The squadron was commissioned in May 2004 to provide rapidly deployable force protection and anti-terrorism operations in support of fleet commanders.
