YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — If you’re thinking about driving or parking on Yongsan Garrison on Tuesday, think again.

Area II officials want people to find alternate methods of transportation because hundreds of parking spots will be reserved for the VIPs attending the 8th Army change-of-command ceremony at 10 a.m. on Knight Field, where Lt. Gen. David P. Valcourt will take command from Lt. Gen. Charles C. Campbell.

“We are stressing car-pooling or alternate methods of transportation,” Area II Law and Order Officer Ricky Oxendine stated in a news release. “Parking will be very limited throughout the installation.”

Vehicles parked in reserved areas will receive tow warning notifications beginning Sunday, according to the release.

Beginning at 11 p.m. Monday, the following areas, and possibly others, will be off-limits to parking and blocked with yellow barricades: Yongsan Main Post Exchange, the Gallery Shopping Mall, Moyer Community Services Center, the 176th Finance Battalion, Dragon Hill Lodge and Collier Field House.

People who drive to Yongsan on Tuesday are being urged to obey no-parking signs, follow police directions and use the following parking areas: troop billet parking behind Trent Gym, adjacent to the Community Services Building next to Popeye’s on Yongsan South Post, picnic pavilion areas, parking lots across from Commiskey’s and the 18th Medical Command parking lot across from Gate 17.

Oxendine said anyone moving the barricades will be cited for altering a traffic control device, according to the news release.

“Once barricades are in place, reserved parking areas will be off-limits,” Oxendine stated in the release.

“Vehicles left in those areas will be towed so we request that personnel who are going on leave or (temporary duty) do not leave their vehicles on-post. All non-essential vehicles should remain off-post.”

The Yongsan Main Post Exchange will be closed until noon and barricaded parking areas should reopen after 4 p.m.

The ceremony will be moved to Collier Field House in the event of inclement weather.
