Commissary customers have until Friday to redeem any gift certificates issued under the now-defunct CertifiChecks Inc., a Dayton, Ohio, company that filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in April.

The Defense Commissary Agency is extending that deadline for customers with unredeemed gift certificates who were deployed or on temporary duty between March 6 and July 31. Applications for the extension must be submitted by Friday, according to Kevin Robinson, a DeCA spokesman.

The extension form is available in commissary customer service areas and cash offices. The form can also be found on the DeCA Web site at: http://www.commissaries.com/press_room/press_release/2009/DeCA_69_09.cfm.

Navy Exchange Command and Army and Air Force Exchange Service stores also sold the CertifiChecks to customers. Officials from both agencies said their stores would still honor the gift certificates indefinitely for merchandise only.
