The commander of Combined Joint Task Force-82 in Afghanistan celebrated Easter with troop visits at four bases in the northeast part of the country on Sunday, officials said Monday.

Hitting some of “the most remote and austere” bases in the region, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. David Rodriguez started with a Catholic mass at Jalalabad Airfield before traveling to the other bases with two Task Force Spartan chaplains. At each stop, the chaplains conducted Easter services for troops.

Among the bases visited were Kamdesh, where the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment is based; Gowardesh, where troops from the 4th Battalion, 25th Field Artillery Regiment are based; and Naray.
