PYEONGTAEK, South Korea — Camp Humphreys has its first full-time obstetrician/gynecologist, a doctor many women at the post have wanted for some time.

Lt. Col. Bart Meyers will work at the Camp Humphreys health clinic and also will be its officer in charge, said Robert H. McElroy, spokesman for the U.S. Army Garrison-Humphreys.

Meyers is certified in obstetrics-gynecology and in family medicine, McElroy said.

“It addresses a need in the community,” McElroy said. “As we’ve gotten more families here, there’s been a need for that type of care.”

Humphreys had no OB/GYN until September, when a doctor from the Brian Allgood Army Community Hospital in Seoul began visiting every other Wednesday.

The limited schedule made it tough for many women to get an appointment. That visiting service has ended with Meyers’ arrival, McElroy said.

Women also may continue to make appointments at Allgood, he said.

Appointments at the Camp Humphreys’ clinic are available by walk-in or by calling the central appointments line, DSN 753-5627.
