SEOUL — Camp Casey’s Gateway Club is slated to celebrate its grand reopening Monday, officially marking an end to the club’s four-month renovation project in time for a New Year’s Eve party.

Frank De Silva, Camp Red Cloud’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation marketing manager, said original plans were for the renovation, which began in April, to be complete in September, but the new equipment didn’t arrive until mid-November.

The bar portion of the club was closed for four months, though the restaurant service continued.

The renovation cost about $750,000 and included a new bar, lighting and sound system. Also included were 12 plasma screen televisions, a stage, trivia gaming machines and an updated karaoke system. The club also added a row of windows facing Gateway Park, De Silva said.

“That really did make a difference,” he said. “Except for the doors, the room was totally dark before they put the windows in.”

The club unofficially reopened in August with temporary furnishings and equipment, but Monday will be the first time the club’s new equipment will be put into use, De Silva said.

People attending the reopening ceremony and New Year’s Eve party can expect free food, a karaoke contest and some “surprise” live entertainment.
