Bus fares within U.S. Army Garrison-Red Cloud will rise from 10 cents to 80 cents each way beginning Oct. 1, officials announced Friday.

An Aug. 28 Installation Management Command-Korea memo cited rising fuel costs and the South Korean won’s rapid depreciation against the U.S. dollar as reasons for the fare increases.

Adults traveling on buses from Camp Casey to Yongsan Garrison will now spend $6.10, or 6,000 won — up from $5.50, or 5,200 won. Children’s prices for the same trip rose 80 cents to $3, or 3,000 won.

Other fare increases include trips to and from camps Red Cloud, Jackson and Stanley. Fares last rose for adults in October 2007, when officials cited fuel prices and bus employees’ salaries as factors.

Tickets at current prices will be accepted throughout October if they are purchased before Oct. 1.
