Calling from an off-base or cell phone to most numbers on camps Courtney, Foster and Hansen is now more straightforward, according to a Marine news release.

In the past, callers had to connect to an on-base seven-digit access number plus the number of the person being called. Now, the access number is dropped and the three-digit prefix of a person’s number is replaced with an equivalent Japanese prefix, according to the release. The prefix replacements are:

970 for 645954 for 622971 for 646969 for 623Direct-in dialing is not available for every base line. People in Marine base housing not covered by the change who want direct in-dialing can call DSN 622-7211 for assistance.

NICU to hold reunion for former patientsNaval Hospital Okinawa has set its annual Neonatal Intensive Care Unit reunion for May 19 at the Lester Middle School cafeteria from noon to 3 p.m.

The reunion lets staff see how former patients have progressed. It is open to parents and siblings, spokesman Brian Davis said.

Kadena power shut-offs scheduled for May 12Scheduled power outages May 12 at Kadena Air Base will close some shopping facilities an hour early, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service said.

The base exchange will close at 8 p.m. and the Main Street Food Court will close at 9 p.m., AAFES said. Both will reopen at their regular hours the next day.
