The USS Tortuga arrived Wednesday in Brisbane, Australia, where sailors, midshipmen and members of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit will pause for a four-day port visit, according to a U.S. 7th Fleet news release.
The Sasebo-based ship is in Australia to take part in Talisman Saber, a monthlong bilateral training exercise involving more than 20,000 members of the U.S. military and 12,000 Australian military personnel.
Morale, Welfare and Recreation has arranged activities for the sailors and Marines including crocodile tours, a four-wheel drive tour, scuba trips and surfing tours as well as community service projects, the press release stated.
The USS Essex and the USS Talisman will join the Tortuga for Talisman Saber, the Navy has reported.
‘Idol’ triplets coming to Guam for concertsThe Maynard Triplets will give free concerts for servicemembers in South Korea and Guam beginning Friday.
The platinum blond trio of “American Idol” fame will play at Camp Casey Gateway Park beginning at 8 p.m. Friday before heading to Kunsan Air Base on Saturday and Osan Air Base on Sunday.
They move on to Guam to play at Andersen Air Force Base on Wednesday, followed by a concert for U.S. Naval Forces Marianas on Thursday.
