YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The “Give Parents a Break” program scheduled for Saturday at the Kibo Child Development Center has been canceled due to low enrollment, a facility official said.

The four-hour sessions are held monthly. The next one is tentatively scheduled for the third week of September.

The program is open to parents dealing with a spouse’s absence due to deployment or other temporary-duty assignment, or those with special-needs children.

Parents get an afternoon of personal time, while their children are cared for at the CDC.

Friendship Festival closures plannedYOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Several base facilities will be closed during the annual Japanese-American Friendship Festival, set for Aug. 25-26, the 374th Services Division announced in a news release.

Doors are shutting all weekend at East Side Blues, West Side Deli, Sunrise Bakery, Outdoor Recreation, the Aero Club, Auto Hobby Center and Yokota Officers Club. The Outback restaurant will remain open.

The Yokota Enlisted Club will have these amended hours of operation Aug. 24-26:

The Shogun Lounge is open 10:30 a.m. to 3 a.m. Aug. 24, 4:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Aug. 25, and 4:30 p.m. to midnight Aug. 26. The Spectrum Lounge will be open 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Aug. 24 but closed the rest of the weekend.

Charlie T’s will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Aug. 24 but closed Aug. 25-26. Mosukoshi Delivery service will not run all three days.

Bingo is canceled Aug. 24-26.

The Barber Shop will be open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25 but closed Aug. 26.

Registration open for Strong Man ChallengeYOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Registration is open for the fourth annual Yokota Strong Man Challenge, which will be staged Aug. 26 during the base’s annual Japanese-American Friendship Festival.

Competitors may sign up until the day of the event, scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on the festival’s outdoor stage. World-class strong man champions also will appear for guest exhibitions.

Free lunch buffet offered on Aug. 27YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The Yokota Enlisted Club will offer a free lunch buffet Aug. 27 to residents of Colorado, Missouri, Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico.

A state driver’s license and membership card are required. The lunches are available to enlisted or officers club members only.

Tama Hills seeks golf competitorsYOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Registration for this year’s Tama Hills Golf Course club championship will be held through Aug. 28, the 374th Services Division said.

The Labor Day weekend tournament is set for Sept. 1-3, with tee times to be announced at a later date. The event will feature men’s and women’s divisions.

The cost is $45 each for status of forces agreement ID cardholders. The entry fee covers breakfast and lunch each day, greens fees for 54 holes of play, use of a golf cart, gift bags and a drawing for door prizes on the final day.
