Briefs: Misawa to host audition taping for Tops in Blue
MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — A new program at the Mokuteki Community Center is geared toward helping airmen get noticed by Tops in Blue 2008.
On Sept. 29, from noon to 5 p.m. the center will host an “audition taping” in the ballroom for airmen interested in performing next year for Tops in Blue, a group of Air Force entertainers that tours and performs at Air Force bases worldwide.
It’s open to active-duty, reserve and guard members and is need of singers, dancers, musicians and technicians. The community center will tape airmen’s performances and submit the tape.

Pet kennel to celebrate one-year anniversaryMISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Misawa residents are invited to the pet kennel Friday to celebrate the facility’s one-year anniversary. AFN to record holiday messages for homeCAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The American Forces Network will be recording holiday messages that will be sent to the hometowns of servicemembers and their families, according to a Marine Corps release.
A team is scheduled to shoot at the Banyan Tee Tree House on Kadena Air Base on Oct. 6 and Oct. 8, and also will be at the Globe and Anchor on Camp Foster on Oct. 9 and at the post exchange on Camp Hanson on Oct. 10. Each day, the team will record from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Motorcycle Safety Rodeo scheduled for FridayA Motorcycle Safety Rodeo is scheduled for Friday from 7 a.m. to noon at the Motorcycle Safety Riding Range, Building 908, on Kadena Air Base, according to a Marine Corps release.
The event is about motorcycle safety awareness and establishing the Marine Corps Base Motorcycle Riding Club, according to the release.
The free event is open to all status of forces agreement personnel.

5K run set for Oct. 13 at Torii Station BeachThe Joint Services Family Shelter and the military are holding a 5K run/walk Oct. 13 at Torii Station Beach to promote Domestic Violence Awareness, according to a Marine release.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. the day of the event. The run/walk is scheduled to start at 8 a.m.

Spouse Information Fair will focus on fitnessThe Army Community Service Relocation Program has scheduled its quarterly Spouse Information Fair at the Coral Cove Community Club on Torii Station on Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to an Army release.
The fair’s theme is “Health and Fitness for the Mind, Body and Soul,” and spouses who wear fitness gear will receive a free gift, according to the release.
Free round-trip bus transportation will be provided from the Kadena Air Base United Services Organization at 9:30 a.m. to Torii Station and returning to Kadena at 2:30 p.m.
Fair attendees also can receive child-care vouchers to pay for their children’s day care, according to the release.

Foster to host college scholarship seminarCAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — A college scholarship seminar is scheduled at the Camp Foster Education Center, Building 5679, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, according to the Marine Corps Community Services Web site.
The seminar will discuss “how to tap into the millions of dollars available” for scholarships.

Scholarships available for Iraq veteransApplications will be accepted for the 2007-2008 Horatio Alger Military Veterans Scholarship until Sept. 28, according to the association’s Web site.
According to the site, scholarship recipients must be veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan or Operation Iraqi Freedom and have one of the following campaign medals:
Afghanistan Campaign Medal.Iraq Campaign Medal.Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (for service in Afghanistan or Iraq).Recipients must attend school on a full-time basis — at least 24 credit hours per calendar year — to receive a scholarship.
