Fires Brigade changes commandLt. Col. Michael Wright took interim command of the 210th Fires Brigade at a ceremony at Camp Casey’s Indianhead Field on Thursday morning.

Wright, formerly the brigade’s executive officer, took command from Col. Matt Merrick, who served as brigade commander for two years.

Merrick moves south to Yongsan Garrison, where he will serve as 8th Army executive officer.

In about a month, Col. Brian McKiernan will arrive from the Army War College to take permanent command of the brigade, 2nd Infantry Division officials said.

The 210th Fires Brigade is one of six fires brigades in the Army. In December, it deactivated as the 2nd Infantry Division Fires Brigade and reflagged as the 210th.

Along with the 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, the 210th is one of the 2nd Infantry Division’s two brigades headquartered at Camp Casey.
