KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Lt. Col. Mechelle B. Hale took command Thursday morning of U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern. Hale comes to Kaiserslautern from U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Fla., where she served as joint logistics officer.
Hale replaced Lt. Col. Erik O. Daiga, who was the Kaiserslautern garrison commander for the past 24 months. Daiga’s next assignment is at the Pentagon, where he will serve with the office of the Army chief of staff for installation management.
Kaiserslautern is home to roughly 50,000 Americans.
Army to consolidate base support servicesARLINGTON, Va. — Starting this fall, the Army will consolidate the organizations that provide its global base support services into a single Installation Management Command, led by a three-star general and based at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, according to an Aug. 4 announcement.
The Army Environmental Center and the U.S. Army Community and Family Support Center, part of the current installation management structure, will remain separate organizations, reporting to their parent command as subordinates, the announcement said.
Today’s four Installation Management Agency regions within the United States, meanwhile, will be consolidated into just two, to be located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and Fort Eustis, Va.
