Brief: Polish general to command joint task force in Afghanistan
A Polish general has been named deputy commander of Combined Joint Task Force-82 in Afghanistan, officials said Monday.
Brig. Gen. Marek Tomaszycki also will serve as commander of the approximately 400 Polish troops in Afghanistan. That number is scheduled to increase by 800 over the next month, according to previously announced troop commitments.
One Polish battle group will operate under the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne, known here as Task Force Fury.
“It’s the best situation to be part of the 82nd headquarters,” Tomaszycki said in a news release. “I’ll get knowledge on how a U.S. division headquarters works, get to know everything about operational procedures and get to know excellent soldiers.”
