HEIDELBERG, Germany — NATO’s Allied Land Component Command Heidelberg will deploy some 200 soldiers and civilians to Kabul in the coming months to support the International Security Assistance Forces there.
The mission of the Heidelberg unit will be to fill “core battle staff positions in support of military operations ongoing,” at the ISAF headquarters, according to a NATO news release. The deployment will begin in either July or August. Land Component soldiers have undergone predeployment training, including theater-specific scenario training, weapons qualification, first aid training and mine-awareness operations.
