VICENZA, Italy — A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday in the base chapel for a 173rd Airborne Brigade soldier killed Aug. 27 in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Thomas Wilson, 21, from Maurertown, Va., was killed when his mounted patrol was ambushed by rocket-propelled grenades, and machine-gun and small-arms fire. He was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment.

Wilson is the 11th soldier based in Vicenza and 13th member of the brigade to die since the unit deployed to Afghanistan in May.
