Brief: General to command AAFES

WASHINGTON — Army Brig. Gen. Keith Thurgood will take command of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service on Aug. 15, exchange officials announced this week.
Thurgood, currently the assistant division commander of the Army Reserve 95th Division in Oklahoma, will take over the post from Air Force Maj. Gen. Bill Essex. Essex has served as the AAFES commander for two years.
Lt. Gen. Roger Brady, chairman on the AAFES board of directors, praised Thurgood’s military and civilian business experience.
His military service includes command and training stints in Germany, Japan and Korea, while his civilian education includes a master’s degree in business administration from Boston University and a doctorate in organizational management and leadership from Capella University.
Essex will retire from the service on Oct. 1.
