BAUMHOLDER, Germany — A Baumholder-based 1st Armored Division soldier was injured Thursday in a motorcycle accident.
The soldier, who was not identified, was driving the motorcycle when it crashed while rounding a curve, according to initial reports and witnesses on the scene. The accident happened about 11 a.m. in a curvy stretch of two-lane road between Baumholder and Heimbach.
The soldier was evacuated to a German hospital in Idar-Oberstein for evaluation and then to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, according to 1st AD officials.
German and American police are investigating the accident.
The accident occurred a few days after 1st AD leadership implemented a riding ban until motorcycle training and counseling are completed, and 12 days after another Baumholder soldier died in a head-on collision about 20 miles south of Baumholder.
