BAMBERG, Germany — A Bamberg-based soldier was killed in a car crash Thursday, the U.S. Army garrison in Bamberg said.
No further information on the soldier was released pending notification of next of kin, said Douglas DeMaio, a public affairs spokesman for the garrison. He said local German authorities would investigate the accident because it happened off post.
A German police report stated that a 27-year-old soldier was killed on highway B505 between Schweinfurt and Bamberg at 9:55 a.m. The driver veered into oncoming traffic and struck a tractor-trailer, the report said. It also stated that the soldier died on impact.
