AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy — Organizations around base have raised more than $14,000 so far for victims of the tsunamis in the Indian Ocean, and the effort is ongoing.

Friends of Family Support, the 31st Logistics Readiness Squadron and the base’s community center are sponsoring a concert on base Friday night to raise more money for relief organizations. The concert, featuring a handful of bands made up of people from the American community in Aviano, starts at 8 p.m.

Vickie Jo Ryder, community readiness consultant for the Family Support Center, said each person’s $5 admission fee will be given to relief organizations.

The base presented the American Red Cross with a check for $7,327 on Monday. The majority of that money came from a Jan. 7 event at the base exchange/commissary where volunteers sold donated bottled water. Field Training Detachment 17 also contributed $1,000.

More money was raised in a variety of events around base, including a chili cook-off by the 31st Maintenance Squadron, a barbecue by the 31st LRS and a table tennis tournament by the 31st Contracting Squadron.
