Naval Air Facility Atsugi outside Tokyo, home to Carrier Air Wing 5, will welcome its next leader at a change-of-command ceremony Thursday.

After three years at the helm, Capt. Reed A. Eckstrom leaves this week for a staff position with Commander, Naval Installations in Washington.

He will be replaced by Capt. Justin D. Cooper II, who arrives from a yearlong National Security Fellowship at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

In addition to the air wing, Atsugi supports about 40 tenant commands and about 10,000 people, including servicemembers, civilians, dependents, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force personnel and Japanese employees.
