HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Tribune News Service) — An Army civilian employee at Redstone Arsenal and resident of Madison County has tested positive for the coronavirus and is in self-quarantine, Army officials announced Tuesday.
“We are very early in the investigation of this case,” said Dr. Karen Landers with the Alabama Department of Public Health. “While our information is preliminary, we are looking in to whether the case could link to an international case.”
The Fox Army Health Center pharmacy employee was tested at “a local community medical facility” and is included in the official reports of coronavirus patients, Redstone’s garrison command office said. That makes the employee the single Madison County resident case so far.
The health center’s pharmacy will be closed until March 24, the garrison commander said. It is currently set to reopen March 25, although that could change. People needing refills should contact their Primary Care Manager using secure messaging. All other services remain open.
“We remain committed to providing safe, quality care at Fox Army Health Center and we are working diligently to guarantee services are available for our beneficiaries,” Fox Army Health Center commander. Col. Anthony Meador said.
This is the second confirmed case of the coronavirus COVID-19 in North Alabama linked to Redstone Arsenal and its tenant organizations. An employee of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center also has the virus. That employee’s residence is not known.
