New general will lead key Redstone Arsenal command

(Tribune News Service) — One of Redstone Arsenal’s generals is getting a third star and leadership of one of the post’s key commands. He is succeeding the general who will now help lead the new U.S. Space Command.
The Senate has confirmed Maj. Gen. Daniel Karbler for the rank of lieutenant general and for assignment as the commanding general of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command headquartered at Redstone in Alabama, the Army said.
Karbler is currently special assistant to the commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel Command, also headquartered at Redstone. He will assume the new command in a promotion and Change of Command ceremony Dec. 6.
The new commander’s previous assignments include chief of staff of the U.S. Strategic Command, commanding general of the U. S. Army Test and Evaluation Command and commandant of U.S. Army Air Defense School.
He is succeeding Lt. Gen. James Dickinson, who is becoming deputy commander of the new U.S. Space Command. Dickinson commanded the Army Space and Missile Defense Command starting in 2017.
