SEOUL — Brig. Gen. Brian J. McKiernan recently assumed the position of deputy commanding general for operations for the Eighth Army.

McKiernan, a native of Providence, R.I., and a Vanderbilt University graduate, last served as the deputy commanding general of support for the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg.

McKiernan previously served in South Korea as commander of the 210th Fires Brigade, in the 6-37th Field Artillery Battalion and 2nd Infantry Division Artillery and as theater operations officer for the Combined Forces Command.

He took part in Operation Desert Storm and deployed to Iraq twice for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
