Support our mission

In celebration of November being Military Family Month, the Armed Services YMCA is asking children about their military families for its annual art and essay contests.

Children of active-duty and retired servicemembers, including the National Guard and Reserve, can submit 6-by-8-inch color drawings of their military family. Winners representing each branch, the National Guard and the Reserve will have their artwork featured on a Military Family Month poster.

First place winners will get a $500 U.S. savings bond; second place, a $100 bond.

There also is an essay contest on “Why My Military Dad/Mom is a Hero.”

Students in grades 1 through 8 should submit essays of 100 to 300 words; those in grades 9-12, 300 to 500 words.

Art entries are due Feb. 16; essays, March 16.
