NAPLES, Italy — People in Naples looking for a little “Eatin’ good in the neighborhood,” as the advertising slogan goes, are going to have to wait a little longer for their grub.

The scheduled opening for the much-anticipated Applebee’s chain restaurant at the U.S. Navy support site base in Gricignano has been delayed again, officials said.

Requirements for an increase in the power supply system within the restaurant and a delay in getting employees trained on equipment are to blame for the third delay, base commander Capt. Floyd Hehe said.

The original July 1 opening date first slipped back to Sept. 1, and now officials are projecting a Nov. 1 opening for the popular family-style restaurant, he said.

Applebee’s replaces the restaurant T.G.I. Friday’s, which closed in March, in the same location in the Central Park complex.

Since then, those who wanted to eat out on the support site installation have flocked to the bowling alley and Irish Pub or the food court in the Navy Exchange complex, which includes eateries such as Taco Bell, A&W and KFC, Hehe said.
