KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — The 22nd annual observance of the 82nd Airborne Division’s participation in the Battle of the Bulge is set for Feb. 7 in Belgium.

A 12-mile march will pass through several areas where American troops engaged German soldiers in the 1944-45 campaign, said Tom Goode, a Kaiserslautern American High School teacher who will attend the event.

This year’s march will follow the footsteps of the Division’s 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, but also will cross the paths of other division units.

The march begins at Basse-Bodeux, Belgium. A lunch camp is set up at Rochelinval, where hot soup will be served by the organizers, the 82nd Airborne “All American” Jeep Group and the Belgian Chapter C-47 Club.

After lunch, the march continues through Bergeval, Fosse and Reharmont and back to Basse-Bodeux, where the march ends. Hot wine will be served to marchers at the end of the walk.

Each marcher will receive a certificate.

Organizers expect marchers from Belgium, England, the Netherlands and France, as well as U.S. troops from Germany and the NATO headquarters in Mons, Belgium. Some World War II veterans from the United States are also expected.
