American Forces Network-Europe is surveying listeners about its FM music network, The Eagle.
Through Nov. 19, listeners can go to the AFN Web site, www. afneurope.net, to respond to the survey and provide comments.
Based on the results, The Eagle could change significantly, said Army Lt. Col. Scott Malcom, AFN Europe commander,
In April, the network moved away from a block format, in which one genre of music was featured for a set time.
“Now we blend genres of music into one big playlist, which is how most people listen to music today,” Gary Bautell, AFN Europe radio chief, said in a news release.
Malcom said Bautell’s statement is based on assessments by media research organizations and the popularity of similar formats on stateside radio.
Eagle radio’s current format is based on a survey conducted about this time last year.
At that time, there was little consistency among the 11 stations in the network, Malcom said.
“We needed a way to standardize the sound and re-establish the AFN brand,” he said.
As with the first survey, AFN will use listeners’ responses about their musical tastes to establish its playlists.
Survey participants will be entered for a chance to win one of two vacation packages at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in Garmisch, Germany.
