The Army and Air Force Exchange Service will waive interest penalties and suspend monthly payments for its credit card holders who live in areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
“No interest will be charged; and no payments will be due for an undetermined period of time,” AAFES Treasurer Grant Morris said in a statement Friday. “The interest rate and payment exclusion will also apply to new purchases for an extended time period.”
Customers in the following zip codes are covered under the emergency exemptions:
365XX and 366XX, in Mobile, Ala.369XX and 393XX in Meridan, Miss.394XX in Hattiesburg, Miss.395XX in Gulfport, Miss.396XX in McComb, Miss.700XX and 701XX in New Orleans703XX in Houma, La.704XX in Mandeville, La.AAFES officials estimate about 15,000 accounts are located in those zip codes. Customers can continue to use their cards as long as they had not previously exceeded their credit limit.
