SEOUL, South Korea — AAFES officials Tuesday announced the recall of a contact-lens solution officials say can cause eye infections.

Army and Air Force Exchange Service officials said the Complete Moisture Plus Multi Purpose Solution, manufactured by Advanced Medical Optics, may have been sold in some of their stores.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that the solution, in rare cases, can cause Acanthamoeba keratitis, an infection that can lead to vision loss requiring corneal transplant.

Consumers are advised to stop using and discard the solution, and replace their lenses and storage containers. Anyone in possession of the recalled solution may call the manufacturer at 888- 899-9183.

AMO said Tuesday it stands by its product and blamed improper handling of contact lenses for the eye infections.

“It’s not a manufacturing problem or a contamination issue,” said James Mazzo, the company’s president and chief executive officer.
