WASHINGTON — Amateur military photographers have a chance to win some professional-level pay for their shots through a new Army and Air Force Exchange Service contest.

Last week, AAFES officials announced their Patriot POG Photo Contest, open to all authorized exchange customers. The top 12 shots will appear on future POGs, gift certificates available through the exchanges.

In addition, the top two winners will receive a $1,000 AAFES gift card. Two $750 prizes, two $500 prizes and six $50 prizes also will be awarded.

AAFES spokesman Judd Anstey said judges will be looking for “creative and emotional” pictures related to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Entries also can highlight activities in support of deployed troops, such as farewell ceremonies and welcome-home events.

Contestants with digital pictures must provide high-resolution shots, at least 300 DPI, but the file size can not exceed 1.4 MB. Those entries can be e-mailed to, and contestants must include “AAFES POG Contest” in the subject line.

Print submissions should not exceed 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Mailed entries should be addressed to:

Army and Air Force Exchange Service Attn: MK-MS (AAFES POG CONTEST)3911 S. Walton Walker Blvd.Dallas, TX 75236-1598

Mailed entries must be received by Aug. 15. Contest winners will be notified by Aug. 31.
