Teams of sailors from the 6th Fleet practiced recovering and neutralizing explosive devices in icy northern Norway during the multinational Arctic Specialist exercise.

Explosive ordnance disposal teams left the warmer environs of Rota, Spain, to take part in the Arctic exercise hosted by the Royal Norwegian Navy, the Navy said.

Sailors dove in near-freezing waters and conducted patrols in snow-capped passes and gorges to train in anti-explosive measures.

“This exercise was another chapter in building a strong and enduring relationship with our NATO partners,” said Cmdr. Jeff DeMarco, commanding officer of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 8.
