52nd Ops Group gets new commander
SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany — Col. Robert Wright assumed command of the 52nd Operations Group from Col. Chris Chambliss in a ceremony at the base on Friday, according to a press release.
Wright is a command pilot with about 2,000 flying hours — including more than 300 combat hours — in F-16C/D and AT-38B aircraft.
Before moving to Spangdahlem, Wright served as the chief of Special Air Operations, then director of staff and senior U.S. Representative at NATO headquarters at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
The operations group includes about 530 airmen in the 22nd, 23rd and 81st Fighter Squadrons; the 606th Air Control Squadron, and an operations support squadron.
Chambliss moves on to serve as the 8th Fighter Wing vice commander at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea, the release said.
