Four Special Operations Command Europe soldiers injured in a weather-related accident Saturday in Africa arrived at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center Sunday night for treatment.

Two of the soldiers are in the hospital’s intensive care unit — one in serious condition and one in stable condition, said Marie Shaw, Landstuhl spokeswoman. The other two soldiers are both in stable condition at the hospital, Shaw said.

One soldier from the command was killed during the accident while supporting the Trans-Sahara Counterterrorism Partnership in Kidal, Mali, on Saturday, according to a European Command news release.

The release provided no further details on the accident.

The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

The injured were first transported to a medical facility in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, for treatment before being moved to Landstuhl.

Mali is located in northwest Africa, and Kidal rests in a remote eastern region of the country. Mali is among the poorest countries in the world, with 65 percent of its land area desert or semidesert, according to the CIA World Fact book. The country’s population is 90 percent Muslim.
