CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Brig. Gen. Joseph V. Medina relinquished his duties as the commanding general of the 3rd Marine Division to Maj. Gen. Robert B. Neller at a change-of-command ceremony Monday on Camp Courtney.

Medina will continue to serve as the deputy commanding general of the III Marine Expeditionary Force and commanding general of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade.

Medina led the division as it participated in Exercise Cobra Gold ’07 with the militaries of Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia and oversaw deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Neller previously served as assistant division commander of the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2006 to February 2007 as the deputy commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
