MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — The 35th Fighter Wing will welcome a new commander in January.

Brig. Gen. Sam Angelella announced Friday morning during his monthly commander’s call-in radio show that the Air Force has picked him for a new job.

After only 16 months as the wing and base commander, Angelella has been assigned to be U.S. Pacific Command’s next deputy director of strategic planning and policy. A change-of-command ceremony is planned for Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. in Hangar 949, according to base officials.

Tapped to replace Angelella is Col. Terrence O’Shaughnessy, the 57th Adversary Tactics Group commander for the 57th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.
