3 sailors injured when Riverine patrol boat runs aground
Three Coastal Riverine sailors were injured in a training accident when their 34-foot patrol boat ran aground off Charleston, S.C., Navy officials said.
The incident occurred during “routine training” at 9:41 p.m. Saturday while Coastal Riverine Squadron 10 sailors piloted the boat into Charleston Harbor, according to a Navy statement Sunday.
The sailors were transported to the Medical University of South Carolina where they were listed in stable condition, the statement said. The cause of the grounding is under investigation.
The Coastal Riverine Force is responsible for port and harbor security, high value asset protection, offensive combat operations and maritime security operations in rivers, harbors and coastal waterways, the statement said. Coastal Riverine Squadron 10 is a Navy Reserve unit based out of Jacksonville, Fla.
